Here we go

• 23.5 million people are living with HIV (In Sub-Saharan Africa alone).
• Less than 1/3rd of Africans have access to broadband internet
• More than half of Sub-Saharan countries personally believe in witchcraft and rituals.
• Africa has the largest river, largest lake, largest desert, largest canyon, largest waterfall in the world.
• In Uganda, 45% of rural populations and 27% of urban populations need to walk over 1KM to find a sanitary facility (bathroom, shower, building); 13 countries in Africa have at least 25% of their populations practicing open defecation.
• Despite 40% of their country being the Sahara Desert itself, Tunisians top the list of being the most food secure country on the continent
• Average IQ for Sub-Saharan Africa is 66 (highest score received was on writing of 68; For sake of reference, USA has an average IQ of ~98 & it’s illegal to join the US military with an IQ of 83 or less).
• One of Africa’s most dangerous mammals is the hippo–it takes the lives of 3,000 Africans every year

• 600 Million Africans lack electricity
• Help them not–More money leaves Africa than what comes in as foreign support. Over the last 50 years, Africa is estimated to have lost in excess of $1 trillion in illicit financial flows. This sum is roughly equivalent to all of the financial development assistance received by Africa during the same timeframe. According to UNCTAD, $88.6 billion leaves the continent annually as illicit capital flight.
• Not just capital flight, there’s people flight–20% of all African-born physicians are practicing in high-income-countries (none of which are on the continent).
• To date, 37,000,000 more people entered into extreme poverty since the declared “pandemic”.
• An estimate of 63% of the entire continent do not have a bank account
• A study demonstrated that the highest rate of birth defects in the world occurred in Southern Africa (region) (43 per 1000).

These numbers are quite unbelievable to read, however, my favourite is outlining that more financial flows leave Africa than come inside. Many carelessly believe that more support (or I believe it’s called “impact investing”) will vitalize the continent and turn it into a paradise. The reality is that the continent are run by actual criminally insane-types who are motivated to loot the resources as fast as possible and send the proceeds to their accounts in Switzerland, France or the Cayman Islands. The fundamentals such as rule of law, individualism, private property, honesty, trust, free markets, production are so far removed from life there that any amount of money injected will just seep out again into the coffers of the government and/or military.
