Jakarta has approved US$450 million for the aircraft carrier program, their first one, despite raised concerns about the cost to maintain being enormous. The carrier is a 41-year-old former ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi, with capacity for short take-off and vertical landing aircraft and helicopters. Interestingly, Rome had retired it in 2024.
