Weekly Weigh In: France Falling, Saudi Bombed, Mexico Riot and Energy Everything, Gone Higher

France Riots

France, an entirely bankrupt country with massive deficits, massive taxes and regulations, a crumbling bond market, massive debts leading to an enormous interest bill that almost cannot be paid, a number of political coups and weekly protests about dozens and dozens of complaints has become even MORE crazy with a huge number of student riots against the state and teachers.

Allegedly, this is triggered by complaints over severe teacher shortages, overcrowded classes, heavy workloads, and dilapidated, rat-infested school buildings. The madness of crowds has taken over however.

Some facts:

  • Around 300,000 protesters
  • 24 schools burned or ransacked–over 2,400 closed or blocked off.
  • Dozens of trees cut down
  • Over 6,600 arrests made so far, the vast majority are minors and the vast majority of those are of a Southern Asian or African background.
  • 10s of millions of damage estimated as of now
  • 85 teachers injured

The unrest began in poorer, working-class northern suburbs of Paris (like Seine-Saint-Denis) before rapidly spreading to major hubs including Lyon, Marseille, Rennes, Lille, and Strasbourg. All of this is multiplied yet again with the French government aiming to pass unfavorable strict 2027 austerity budget

Network News

It’s worth continuing on France because it’s just so unbelievable.

I have found out from French friends that the new mayor of Saint-Denis (Saint-Denis is a separate commune and northern suburb located just outside the official city limits of Paris) named Bally Bagayoko, is a far-left communist who has been supporting the riots. His background?

Born in Levallois-Perret to Malian immigrants, he is a former semi-professional basketball player, coach, and geopolitics graduate from Paris 8 University. He is the first Black and Muslim mayor of Saint-Denis
