Weekly Weigh IN: Struggling North Americans, Cyberattack, Spirit Airlines, South China Sea, Travel

A CBS News poll finds that over 70% of Americans say they are having difficulty affording essentials like food, housing, and health care.

Likewise, in Canazuela–A new poll shows 65% of Canadians believe the economy is headed in the wrong direction and don’t see it improving anytime soon. Interesting to note that around 60% are adamant supporters of Mark Carney as Prime Minister.

Insanity is doing the exact things again and expecting different results, no?

Churches in Canada

I was shocked to learn that over 200 Christian churches in Canada have been vandalized/burned in just the last 4 years. That’s 50 per year or around 1 per week constantly.

Cyber Attack

Ubuntu a modern, open source operating system on Linux for the enterprise server, desktop, cloud, and IoT has received a cyberattack against it. Ubuntu’s infrastructure started failing with users trying to reach ubuntu.com and receiving 503 errors. By the time the picture came into focus, it wasn’t an outage in the ordinary sense, but it was a deliberate attack.

The attackers identified themselves as the Islamic Cyber Resistance in Iraq – 313 Team. They claimed responsibility for the assault and then: They provided a Session contact ID and made clear they wanted a response. What they were after beyond that hasn’t been publicly specified, but the implication was clear, this was extortion.

I am trying to learn more about hacking and cybersecurity matters–but my understanding is that the concern raised by threat intelligence analysts is that other actors – ones with no connection to the 313 Team– might now be looking in to exploit the user data.

This has many uses including:

Personal computing – web browsing, office work, media

Programming & development – widely used for coding (Python, Java, C++, etc.)

Business servers & cloud – very common in web hosting and cloud infrastructure

Education – used in schools due to its cost and flexibility

Spirit has left Earth

Spirit Airlines is reportedly prepared to shutdown at midnight tonight.

Swindle

President Trump’s net worth triples to $6.5 billion with the help of crypto after winning 2024 election.

South China Sea

Disputes between China and Southeast Asian nations (notably Philippines) have escalated. This has lead to:

  • Increased maritime confrontations
  • More U.S. involvement in regional security
  • Strategic importance of shipping lanes (Trillions in trade)

This is one of the highest-risk flashpoints globally—not because of imminent war, but because:

  • Miscalculation risk is rising
  • Insurance, shipping, and energy markets are sensitive to it
  • It is receiving little attention but directly implicates China against US interests.

Flying

Have you ever flown private? It may be worth flying private not only for the great catering and dedicated services, but to take advantage of moving valuables to make your Plan B become a Plan A when necessary. We are living through unprecedented times where there’s little time to delay.

With respect to navigating the niche and challenging world of private aviation–I can help and more specifically, with respect to moving items, namely precious metals to Uruguay–I can also support you, too. Just simply email me at contact@imontheball.com
