Weekly Weigh In: Colombia, Israel Conquers Argentina, Cheese Finance, NEW Travel Advisory

Another Colombian War?

Colombia’s new right-wing President “El Tigre” has just asked President Trump to deploy the US MILITARY against drug cartels, inside Colombia. Colombia’s newly elected President Abelardo de la Espriella plans to forge a military alliance with the United States and Israel to aid his war on guerrillas. Last September, the US military launched a campaign of airstrikes targeting alleged drug-smuggling boats in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific Ocean that have killed at least 215 people

The State of Europe…

A comment on this: The biggest cheese banks in Italy store 300,000+ wheels of Parmesan. Dairy farmers use cheese as collateral and get loans up to 80% of market value. At ~$1,000 per wheel, that’s $200m+ in loans (banks seize and sell cheese if farmer can’t pay back).

Banks, knowing how large this cheese bubble has become, use automated machines that brush and turn the cheese wheels everyday to keep them fresh.

Now… as if things can’t go any more wrong for the continent… Extreme heat is threatening Italy’s “cheese banks,” where hundreds of thousands of Parmigiano-Reggiano wheels are stored as loan collateral.

Argentina is Israel 2.0…what are you a conspiracy theorist?

This was sent to me by an Argentine friend, a post on Instagram reading the following:

Dimos inicio al Curso Básico de Idioma Hebreo, una herramienta que nos permitirá fortalecer la comunicación con pasajeros israelíes y seguir mejorando nuestra capacidad de respuesta en tareas de seguridad, control y asistencia. (We have launched the Basic Hebrew Language Course, a tool that will enable us to strengthen communication with Israeli passengers and continue improving our responsiveness in security, control, and assistance operations)

Latest USA Travel Advisory

Some comments: As I wrote before, Montevideo is now in a state of what looks to be collapse.

  1. Uruguay’s rating is uniquely high, as is Chile. I believe this a result of increasing violence in the capitals of Montevideo and Santiago
  2. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia continue to be stand-out jurisdictions for safety and investment security for the future.
  3. Africa’s dangerous, avoid status continue to grow and expand as there are mercenary groups fighting, famine threats, water insecurity and political instability.
  4. The Eastern bloc countries continue to be the safer destination for travel compared with the rest of Europe, who continue to bring in invaders.
  5. Mexico, as I write, is largely divided in its safety profile.

New Hungarian Prime Minister Killing Massive Contract with Russia?

Not only does Hungary have to shut off their lights near Budapest castle to maintain energy, but their nuclear power plant is working on reduced capacity because of the lower Danube in recent months–to add insult to injury, the new Prime Minister seems to be throwing a curveball into relations with their energy provider; Russia.

Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev insisted work on two new Paks reactors remained on schedule despite Hungary’s change of government in April. Magyar disputed Rosatom’s assessment, saying the Paks II project should have been operational by 2024 under the original contract. He said Hungary had already spent around 1,000 billion forints (€2.8 billion) on a site consisting largely of depots and two large concrete pits. Magyar’s government is conducting a full review of the project, including its financing and cooling arrangements. The agreement was signed by former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in 2014 and included up to €10 billion in Russian state financing for two new reactors.
