Five Reasons Why You Need a Second Passport

Time is Ticking… What are you waiting for?

(1) Secure Travel Around the World

It goes without saying that passports enable you to travel. Some passports are better than others in this respect. No matter what you think of European countries or the Anglophone countries, they still offer amazing travel benefits.

(2) Hedge politically

The world is bifurcating, fast. There are increasingly Western-aligned countries and Eastern-aligned countries that are breaking apart in terms of trade, sanctions, laws, policies, even currencies and of course travel/residency arrangements. Being part of Serbia or Turkey gains you exposure to the emerging South & Asia–being part of New Zealand grants you access to 5 eyes, the EU states and Oceania.

This is the immigration equivalent of ‘not having all of your eggs in one basket’ & even though a second passport may be strange (may feel weird being British in the UK and Egyptian) it’s the ultimate insurance plan.

Want Your Own Passport?

Do you have ancestors from European countries or a spouse from another country? Maybe you have an opportunity for a second passport!

3) Residency

Contrary to what people believe, just because you have a passport to a country doesn’t mean you have to live in that country–but there’s an even better perk. Depending on your passport, you may have the legal right to reside in a completely other country/territory. For instance, European Union citizens can live anywhere else in the European Union. Look at IMI Daily’s chart on the matter.

4) Banking/Companies/Brokerage Accounts

The way of the world now is that banks want a whole lot of revealing private information to allow YOU to place YOUR money with them. The regulation, policies and rules are none of their business if you ask me; but any sort of accounts now require a “tie” to the country before they’ll even bother with you. A passport is one such tie to open up this exposure to move some of your assets without necessarily having to move to the country.

5) Children

A passport can be passed down to your children once they are of age. This ensures your children are off to a head-start in terms of travel, tax, safety and business/job opportunities. It can be a life-long document not only for you, but your entire family! Please check out the informative chart below!

Did you know you can obtain some passports by simply giving birth? Please see our article here that I picked out on low-tax regions.
